Silk Route was an Indian pop music band of late 1990s. Formed in 1997, the band was named after the Silk Road, and its debut album Boondein was released in 1998.[1] They won Channel V music awards in 1998 for Best Indian Band, Best Debut Album, Best Song ("Boondein"). "Boondein" was a breakthrough underwater video which won the award for Best Video, while the hit single Dooba Dooba, which was appeared on Split Wide Open (1999) soundtrack.

The band consisted of (lead singer and guitar[2]), Kem Trivedi on keyboards and Kenny Puri on percussion and drums.[3]

They followed through with their second album Pehchaan in the summer of April 2000. "Morni", a great folk number from the same album, has a great Indian classical and western acoustic touch with the unique style of lyrics. They also use known musicians for their stage and album performances - Brennon Denfer on bass, Adil Manuel & Saurabh Chaudhary on guitars, Qadar Miazzi on Sufi vocals and Shambhu Bhattacharya on tabla and percussions. The band was joined only six months previous to this writing by manager Subir Malik, founding member of the band "Parikrama" - one of the pioneers of rock in India.

The band has also scored and performed soundtracks and songs for movies such as Kalpana Lajmi's "Kyon", "Lets Enjoy" and "Urf Professor".

They confess to such diverse influences as Sting, Simon & Garfunkel and Dire Straits, all of which find their way into the Silk Route sounds. The band always added a distinct touch to their music by using acoustic guitars, talking drums and harmonica and primarily by of the use of Recorder, a 17th century European folk musical instrument played by Kem Trivedi.

They performed at Ragam 06, the annual cultural festival of National Institute of Technology, Calicut.
